Tiny Habits
A behaviour-design approach that starts with actions small enough to do on a difficult day and anchors them to routines.
- Habits
Tiny Habits is a behaviour-design approach associated with BJ Fogg. It begins with an action so small that it can be done on a difficult day, then attaches that action to an existing routine. The smallness is deliberate: it gives a new response a chance to occur before ambition turns it into an all-or-nothing project.
It is not a claim that every meaningful change is tiny, or that an action fails because it was not designed cleverly enough. Some aims need time, money, support, training, or a change in circumstance. A small beginning is a way to create contact with a practice, not a moral test of consistency.
Omzoe uses this sensibility when sizing practice cards. The first version of a practice should leave room for fluctuating capacity and offer evidence about what makes a larger step possible.
