- Work and money
Born in 1927, Jerry Hicks spent decades working as a circus performer, musician, radio host and multi-level marketing distributor—where he used Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich in sales training—before marrying Esther Hicks in 1980. After reading Jane Roberts’s Seth books together in the mid-1980s, the couple launched Abraham-Hicks Publications in Texas. Until his death in 2011, Jerry served as the interviewer, organizer and publishing strategist who turned informal living-room sessions into an international cassette, CD and book enterprise.
Jerry’s role in the partnership was structural and editorial. Drawing on his background in direct-sales motivation and audience Q&A, he formulated the practical questions about money, careers, relationships and well-being that organized the early recordings and later books such as Ask and It Is Given (2004) and The Law of Attraction (2006). That question-and-answer architecture bridged twentieth-century business-success culture and late-twentieth-century New Age channelling.
Looking at Jerry Hicks’s career makes the commercial lineage of modern manifestation visible. The packaging of spiritual claims into subscription tapes, cruise seminars and repeatable formulas followed conventions established in mid-century sales and motivational publishing. Recognising that institutional and commercial craft helps readers see why the material spread so effectively, while keeping a clear boundary between persuasive packaging and evidence for metaphysical attraction or channelling.
For a thoughtful reader, his part in the story is a reminder that self-help ideas rarely travel on philosophy alone; they travel through formats, questions and distribution networks built for a specific market. Asking how a teaching is packaged—and what everyday longing its format is designed to answer—helps keep a reader grounded in critical reflection.
