Geophysical & Acoustic Studio
Synthesize Earth’s electromagnetic harmonics in your browser
Between the conductive surface of Earth and the lower ionosphere lies a natural spherical resonant cavity. Excited by approximately fifty lightning strikes every second across the globe, this cavity rings continuously with electromagnetic standing waves at a fundamental frequency of 7.83 Hz and harmonic overtones at 14.3 Hz, 20.8 Hz, 27.3 Hz, and 33.8 Hz.
Because 7.83 Hz is well below the threshold of human hearing, this synthesizer modulates an audible carrier tone. Binaural mode renders the frequency difference between your stereo ears; Isochronic mode pulses the carrier volume for open room speakers without headphones.
This studio runs entirely on your device using the Web Audio API. Zero telemetry, zero accounts, no server compute, and direct client-side 16-bit stereo WAV export.

The geophysics of Schumann resonance
In 1952, German physicist Winfried Otto Schumann demonstrated mathematically that the spherical cavity bounded by the conductive Earth surface and the lower ionosphere forms a natural electromagnetic waveguide. Because Earth has a circumference of approximately 40,000 kilometers and electromagnetic waves propagate near the speed of light (300,000 km/s), the fundamental resonant mode has a theoretical frequency of approximately 7.5 Hz, modified to 7.83 Hz by ionospheric conductivity losses.
Around fifty lightning strikes occur across the globe every second. Each lightning discharge radiates electromagnetic energy into the cavity, continuously exciting the resonant waveguide. This produces persistent standing electromagnetic waves with a fundamental peak at 7.83 Hz and overtone harmonics at 14.3 Hz, 20.8 Hz, 27.3 Hz, and 33.8 Hz.
Human ears cannot hear 7.83 Hz directly because the lower boundary of human acoustic hearing is approximately 20 Hz. To make these frequencies accessible for contemplative practice, this generator uses acoustic carrier modulation: either a binaural frequency differential between the ears or an isochronic amplitude pulse.
In binaural mode, stereo oscillators differ by the exact harmonic frequency, requiring headphones so your auditory pathway perceives the difference rhythm. In isochronic mode, the carrier amplitude is turned on and off rhythmically, allowing open speakers to project the rhythmic pulses.
The EEG correlation: science versus mythology
A frequent observation in contemplative and biohacking literature is that the 7.83 Hz fundamental frequency falls directly on the boundary between human theta (4–8 Hz) and alpha (8–12 Hz) electroencephalogram (EEG) brainwave bands. This numerical overlap has inspired widespread speculation about mystical biological tuning.
Scientific reality is grounded in physical scale: the Schumann resonance is determined by planetary circumference, whereas human brainwave rhythms are determined by axonal conduction velocities and thalamocortical loop dimensions. The overlap is a physical coincidence of scale, not evidence of biological telepathy.
Listening to a 7.83 Hz rhythmic acoustic beat produces an auditory frequency-following response (auditory entrainment), exactly like any other rhythmic acoustic stimulus in the theta band. It serves as an unhurried, rhythmic anchor for contemplative sitting without mystical intervention.
Debunking the pseudoscience
Online discussions of the Schumann resonance are frequently accompanied by pseudoscientific assertions. Claims that 7.83 Hz repairs damaged DNA, shields against 5G networks, or replaces professional medical care have no biophysical basis.
The natural electromagnetic Schumann resonance is exceedingly weak—measured in picoteslas (magnetic) and microvolts per meter (electric)—orders of magnitude below ambient domestic electromagnetic fields. Acoustic simulations like this tool are sound waves produced by your speakers or headphones, not electromagnetic planetary fields.
We present this tool as an evidence-informed acoustic instrument for meditation and sound design, designed with scientific integrity rather than commercial mythology.
