Born in Toronto in 1934, John Kehoe spent three years in the mid-1970s living in a cabin in the woods of British Columbia reading works on New Thought, autosuggestion, shamanism and popular psychology before launching his “Mind Power” lecture series in 1978. His 1987 book Mind Power Into the 21st Century—published through his own Zoetic press and translated widely across Eastern Europe, Russia, Australia and North America—became a durable handbook of structured mental exercises.
Kehoe’s appeal rests on turning diffuse mind-power ideas into a clear, repeatable daily syllabus. Across short chapters on visualization, “seeding,” affirmations, “acknowledging,” dream interpretation and concentration, he asks readers to approach mental habits with the same regularity as physical exercise: dedicating a few quiet minutes each day to noticing habitual negativity, listing existing strengths and rehearsing a chosen aim until the posture feels natural rather than forced.
Like earlier writers in the Joseph Murphy and Claude M. Bristol lineage, however, Kehoe alternates between describing attention training and asserting that thoughts are vibrational forces that magnetize external events. When a reader is told that five minutes of daily imagery will draw financial opportunities or rearrange outside circumstances through an unseen web of consciousness, a practical routine for focus is being asked to carry a metaphysical promise it cannot substantiate.
When the claims of external control are set aside, Kehoe’s emphasis on short, consistent daily practice over sporadic intensity remains sound. Spending a few minutes each day reviewing your commitments and acknowledging small, real signs of progress helps sustain momentum across a month of effort, precisely because it steadies what you do next.
